11 June 2-19 The Wheals, Pendeen and Sennen

The weather took a different turn but we were well prepared. With 5 layers of clothing, we braved the gale force winds and sea spary/rain in the great outdoors.

It was a short drive to Botallack Mine area,. I had wanted to park at Geevor tin mine (free) and do a little walk from thereim but the weather made it impossible to do so. So we parked at Botallack itself and were surprised that many die hard walkers also came to visit despite the weather.

It was an area with ruins, beautiful in a sad way. We saw the engine houses and the labyrinth where they made arsenic. At the cozy Botallack Manor cafe, we had tea and learned a little about the mines and history of the area.

The weather was gusty high winds throughout with spouts of rain and lots of sea spray. Instead of walking to Leyland Mines, we drove over to check out the area. We spent about 45 minutes holing up in the car and feeling the car shake in the gale and debating when is the best time to come out for a peep. It was not as spectacular, probably because of the dratty weather. Good thing we managed to see the Pendeen LH and capture some shoots in between gales.

Our next stop was the Pendeen LH,. We were lucky to get a spot to park for free. We did a 30 minute circuit around the area so as to tick it off our to do list. Better the trouble than regrets.

Off to Sennen Cove next, so as to get a glimpse of the Mayon Ship Wreckage. We had tea and pasties at the Little Bo Cafe at the Cove, which was friendly and lovely.

We braved the gales to get to Mayon and Maen Castle Point. The high winds were blowing left and right and depending on where we stood, the winds could  have whipped us out down the rocks. We did not want to risk going near the cliff for a closer look which I mildly regretted.

Now with all items ticked off the list, we drove back satisfied that despite the weather, we did them all. It was a  different experience from the previous walks and thankfully we were safe and well. I couldn't say that very much for Pat because his cough got worse. No more outing for the evening and besides, it is packing night. We head to Portreath tomorrow and hopefully catch a bit of the Godrevy LH that we missed  the Friday before.
